Deceptively Hopeful… Musings,February 24th 2020

I said to Bruce Moore after Church on Sunday, as we drove the Holan Kitchen for lunch, that there was a hint of spring in the air. It was +3 degrees and there were puddles in the roadway – and in the next breath I said, ‘its deceptively hopeful’.

Deceptively hopeful – but still hopeful as we are on the cusp of Easter, of renewal, of resurrection.

Tomorrow, February 25th we will be sharing in a tradition of Fat Tuesday, Mardi Gras, Shrove Tuesday or simply Pancake Day as some have come to call it, in preparation for the journey of Lent. Join us at 5:30 for pancakes and all the fixings!

On Wednesday, February 26th, we will gather

again at 5:30PM for an Ash Wednesday service where we are invited to be marked with the sign of the cross in preparation for the 40 day journey that calls us to reflection and self-examination.

On Sunday March 1st we will mark the 1st Sunday of Lent with song and scripture and the breaking of bread and the sharing of the cup, that these may be for us nourishment as we begin to wrestle with the big questions. It is my hope that this nourishment in community may sustain us as we wrestle with the ‘big questions’ of the place and purpose of scripture, the name and nature of the God, racism and white privilege and the place and purpose of the Church. For as we wrestle with these questions some may feel especially challenged or disoriented. Other may feel they’ve been duped, or that the ground has shifted – but if we stay with the journey, if we are prepared to embrace the incompleteness, I trust that hope will prevail and spring, Easter, resurrection, renewal will arrive.

Faithfully, Lloyd

I am in the office most of the morning and afternoon for meetings while accomplishing other tasks. This evening I hope to gather with the group at St. Paul’s for Taize prayers at 7PM.

Tuesday will be spent working from home until its time to come over set up for our Pancake Supper and Mardi Gras Games Night. Pancakes will be ready at 5:30PM and games will follow.

Wednesday will see me in the office and in the community for meetings and visits including the Lectionary Bible Study at 11AM. At 5:30PM I’ll be leading the Ash Wednesday Service after which I’ll share in the ‘simple supper’ as offered before heading down the to Legion at 6:30PM for the community meeting about service delivery at the Sackville Memorial Hospital.

Thursday will be a work from home day as I give final shape to the liturgy and reflection for Sunday.

Friday and Saturday will be days off and on Sunday we will gather at Upper Sackville United at 9AM and Sackville United at 11AM. At 3PM Jennie and Lloyd will be leading the Sunday Gathering at the Drew Nursing Home. All are welcome to come out and share in community and singing with the residents!
