Musings, On Restoration and Renewal: May 24th 2022

I cannot remember the last time I enjoyed a Victoria Day long-weekend as fully as I did this this past weekend. Thank you. Thank you for supporting me in my participation in the 2022 Festival of Homiletics and thank you to all who provided leadership in my absence. I listened to a number of informative lectures and some awesome sermons on the theme of trauma and preaching. I hope to be able to share a few clips from some of the best once the recording package is released.

I must confess though, I grew tired of watching the screen and by Thursday morning I'd had enough. After a medical appointment that where my eyes were dilated, and a quick trip to Costco with my chauffeur Heather, I returned home and packed up and headed to the trailer - where thankfully the internet was so spotty that I was unable to join in on Festival events of Friday - I say thankfully because the time of puttering and walking and enjoying the sounds of nature was just what this body needed.

Mia arrived mid afternoon Friday and Jen and Grace and Kate arrived on Saturday, just after our neighbours from Ottawa. And on Sunday, on that gorgeous day that held the fullness of the promise of summer, Max arrived for a visit - and four out of six with us at our happy place!

I returned home on Monday morning to the chores of daily living: laundry and lawn mowing - restore and refreshed - and this morning I am at my desk bright and early looking forward to all that the day may bring.

Faithfully,

Lloyd

Looking Ahead

Today I am in the office this morning and have three visits booked for the afternoon.

On Wednesday I will again be in the office in the morning - joining with folk from Open Sky as we host Seniors Sharing the Table at 10AM. Drop in for coffee, conversation and a treat! All are welcome! At 1PM on Wednesday I will provide leadership at the graveside funeral service for Edith Hicks. I trust you will join me in holding her sons Robert (Sandra) and Dave (Brenda) in care and prayer.

Thursday will be preparation day for Sunday - either from home or down at the trailer and Friday and Saturday will be days off.

I look forward to gathering with you in community on Sunday May 29th for the last Sunday in the season of Easter as we ponder one or more of the following texts: Acts 16:16-34

Psalm 97, Revelation 22:12-14, 16-17, 20-21 and/or John 17:20-26... have a quick look at them and if you have a sermon idea I'd welcome your input!

Looking Further Ahead

On Sunday June 5th we will mark Pentecost Sunday with our Sunday school Celebration and a Pentecost Party: a parking lot BBQ. Thank you to Frank Oulton, Frank Dickson and Paul Del Motte for agreeing to be our BBQ chefs for the event.

In order to plan for food please put your name on the signup list at the church or email lloydabruce@icloud.com and let us know if you'd like: a beef burger, a veggie burger, an Italian (meat) sausage or a veggie sausage. Beverages and a side salad will also be available. We do hope that you'll plan to attend!
