Musings... On the UCW and the United Church!

Writer's picture: Lloyd BruceLloyd Bruce

On Sunday morning as we gathered at Visions, in acknowledging International Women’s Day, I pondered how the meeting with Zelinksy might have gone differently had it been with President Kamala Harris and Vice-President Tim Walz…

And then, on the drive home following the Spirit Gathering and visits at the two hospitals, I received a note from a member of Sackville United Church who watched the gathering from Visions online.

She wrote, “I tuned into the livestream just in time to catch the beginning of the UCW collaborative activity. I loved this and it got me thinking of this group of ladies … from my home church in Green Hill-Alma, NS. So many memories!”

A- active, advocates B- boisterous, busy C- community minded, COOKIES D- diligent, dresses, dinners, DOERS E- expressive, energetic, elegant F- fun, food, funerals G- gregarious, greeting H- helpful, high heeled shoes I- interested (in the needs of others) J- joyful (most of the time) K- kind L- loving, loyal, leaders, LUNCHES M- musical, mature N- nice (and probably sometimes naughty, like the rest of us!) O- open minded P- prayerful Q- questioning R- raucous and sometimes rowdy S- sensitive, SUPPERS, squares, skirts, sandwiches T- trustworthy U- understandingV- visiting W- wondering, whimsical, wacky, welcoming, well-dressed, weddings X- X-uberant Y- young at heart Z- zealous, zany

As I sit here now, and recall all the words shared about the UCW, I recalled with deep sadness the wise observation of an elder from Visions, that not many of the words spoken this morning could be used to describe the Current Occupant of the White House (my emphasis) …”

Thanks to all of you who embraced the activity this morning. I hope it was as fun and engaging for you as I’d hoped it be – and that you didn’t miss me preaching at you!  Maybe in the days to come, as you recall the words that we spoke this morning, you might be resolved to continue to seek daily to live out these same values and attributes… may it be so…

Lloyd
