We hope that you are well. If you are in need - physically, spiritually, or otherwise - don't hesitate to reach out to us by phone (506-940-1151) or email (suc@nb.aibn.com). We are here for you and for each other!
Sunday Worship: Our Regular Sunday Worship is held at 11am both in-person at Sackville United and online via our SUC Facebook Page. Mask-wearing and distancing are encouraged but not mandatory. For those not on FB but wishing to watch online, a link to the video of the service will be posted on the church website in the days immediately following the service.
Fall Church Office Hours: The church office hours are Tuesdays/Thursdays from 12-4:30pm. Any changes to this schedule, including illness or snow days (during which Jennie can sometimes be found working remotely) will be posted on the church FB page, and, if possible, on the church doors as well.
Food Bank In Need: As the cost of living continues to steeply rise, here are a list of items needed this week by the Sackville Food Bank. Items dropped off at the church will be collected weekly, and monetary donations will be given directly to the food bank.
We recognize the upcoming World Food Sunday, October 15th and International Day for the Eradication of Poverty, October 17th. Recent reports have given the Maritime Provinces a failing grade in the fight against poverty. The International Day for the Eradication of Poverty has been observed on October 17since 1993, when the United Nations General Assembly designated this day to promote awareness of the need to eradicate poverty and destitution in all countries. This day can be an opportunity to draw attention to the call for a Guaranteed Livable Income. The UCC website also includes resources created for this purpose.

All Saints' Hymnsing Fundraiser: Sackville United will be hosting a All Saints'-themed hymnsing on Sunday October 29 at 3pm! A list of 20-25 potential hymns will be available on Sunday, October 15, of which we will sing 10. Which 10, you ask? Well, that is up to you!
For each $10 pledge made in loving memory and/or in celebration of an individual or individuals, you get one "vote" for a preferred hymn. You are welcome to make as many pledges as you like, and to vote multiple times for the same hymn or make multiple pledges in loving memory of the same individual. The names of all those held in care and celebration will be listed in the program for the hymnsing as we celebrate the saints all around us, as well as those who have gone on before.
This event will also feature two hymns performed by the choir from the upcoming new UCC hymnbook "Then Let Us Sing". Please join us in raising voices (and funds) as part of this special event.
Coffee and Conversation with Open Sky: following the harvest at the farm, coffee and conversation will resume this coming Wednesday, October 11 at 10am at Sackville United. Bring your appetite for delicious baked goods and conversation - all are welcome!
Support Group for Caregivers: Meeting on the 1st and 3rd Tuesdays of the month at 1:30pm. An informal get-together with light refreshments for current and former caregivers of those with dementia or physical issues to share experiences of their journey and to know that you are not alone and can depend on support and understanding from each other. Please feel free to pass this information on to anyone you think would be interested. Contact the church office or speak to Diane Fullerton or Sheina Grant for more details. All are welcome!
Senior's Lunch Group: Seniors' Fellowship Noon Luncheons will begin again on Tuesday, September 19 at Sackville United Church. We will meet the third Tuesday after that which will be October 17, November 21, December 19. Seniors should bring a paper bag lunch and tea/coffee will be provided.
Sackville United Church Choir: Sackville United Choir currently rehearses at 5pm on Tuesdays. Over the coming weeks, we will potentially decide a new time that suits as many members as possible.
Worship at the Drew: Worship at the Drew will resume the first Sunday of every month beginning on Sunday, November 5 at 3pm.
What's New at Broadview: The United Church magazine has a variety of topical articles on subjects that reflect many of the interests and initiatives of our congregation. Please contact the church office to renew your subscription if you have not already and/or to sign up through our discounted group subscription rate of only $25/year. New subscriptions can be added at anytime of year! How Broadview’s predecessor silenced Indigenous voices at Confederation
These United Church members showed up to say no to anti-LGBTQ2S+ protests (look for some familiar Sackville United faces in this Broadview article!)
#30DaysofGratitude: Thank you to everyone who participated in sharing #30DaysofGratitude with us. These and other displays of thanksgiving can be found on the church website under the "News and Musings" tab and in the front hallway of the church. Thank you to Frank and Rev. Lloyd as they help remind us of the many spaces and people we are blessed with in our little town!
Parents and Tots: Parents and Tots meets Thursday Mornings from 9:30am to 11:00am at St Andrew’s Presbyterian Church. There is no charge, and volunteers are present to assist with childcare. Bring your young ones for a time of community, play and fellowship (and a chance to chat with other grownups!).
Preacher's "Help Group" (Scripture Study): meeting on Tuesdays at 10:30am via zoom. Speak to Rev. Lloyd for more details.
Prayer Bench Group Subscription: We have purchased a group subscription to Rev. Janice MacLean's "Prayer Bench" for the year, including a number of individual email "retreats" and series. If you are interested in receiving these resources please contact the church office.
Scripture/Announcement Readers Needed for Summer Services: READER still needed for October 29! Would you be interested in reading on Sunday Morning? You may sign up on the list on the Circles of Service Board or by calling the Church office. On Thursday afternoon the Church Office will communicate with you and provide you with the specific text(s) you will be asked to read, including the possibility of a selection of modern wisdom in the form of a quote from a current text. A sign-up list for Scripture from December - February 2024 will be posted in the coming weeks.
Care and support for one another in Community: Note that the gathering TONIGHT, Thursday October 12, will be held at the church, but not in the sanctuary due to another event taking place at that time. People of all ages and walks of life are invited to gather for a time of silent prayer in the sanctuary two evenings a month on the second and fourth Thursdays of the month at 7pm for approximately 15-20 minutes. This offers an intentional way to hold in prayer all those persons in our lives for whom we have care and concern. And an understanding that we all carry some heaviness in our lives. All are welcome.
“Community is first of all a quality of the heart. It grows from the spiritual knowledge that we are alive not for ourselves but for one another” * *Henri Nouwen
Family Games Night at SUC: Christy Watts shares: "I hope everyone is having a good week so far, this is a friendly reminder that 2 weeks from this Tuesday on October 10th is our next family-friendly get-together. This games night will be for anyone that is interested in attending. Remember you can bring a friend along and snacks for yourself or to share, all ages are welcome. You can contact Christy with any questions or concerns at 506-612-0608 or by emailing the church office.
Family Friendly Games Night will be held on the second Tuesday of every month at the Sackville United Church (110 Main St) from 6-8 pm.
Cell Phones Needed for Ensemble Moncton: Are you upgrading to a newer model and have a spare phone sitting in a drawer somewhere? Ensemble Moncton provides cellphones to their clients to connect them to services and the community. The clients work closely with the Wellness Navigator at Ensemble to access services in health, justice and social sectors. Funding is very hard to access for cellphone provision because of the harmful assumptions placed on individuals dealing with addictions and substance use. Drop off phones at ENSEMBLE, 80 Weldon Street, Moncton, daily between 8:30 am and 3:30 pm. Phone (506)859-9616 if more information is required. Any cell phones (and chargers!) dropped off at the church office will be brought to Moncton by Jennie or Rev. Lloyd.
Thank you to those who have donated cell phones so far. Ensemble will ensure that all data/information is wiped from phones donated before they are distributed.
Treasurer Wanted!: After many years of faithful service as our church and pastoral charge treasurer, Chrystal Schipper-Everill will soon be retiring from her position. She has generously offered to stay on beyond the end of her term to train a new treasurer. Much of the day-to-day finances, accounting, and document preparation are prepared in the church office. Some of the main duties of the treasurer include:
- preparing the annual budget
- providing oversight and financial reports
- serving on the executive
Please speak to Chrystal or contact the church office for more information.
